Papalee’s Cardamom Coffee Bread

Ingredients
Instructions
  1. Dissolve yeast into water.
  2. Mix milk, 1 stick melted butter, 3/4 cup sugar and beaten eggs.
  3. Add milk mixture to yeast then gradually add flour until a soft dough is formed.
  4. Cover with warm damp cloth and let rise till dough doubles in size.
  5. Place dough onto floured board and knead 10/12 times then let rest.
  6. Melt butter in small saucepan and set aside.
  7. Mix sugar with cardamom in small bowl.
  8. Cut dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each dough ball out into rectangles.
  9. Brush each dough generously with melted butter with pastry brush then sprinkle generously with sugar cardamom mixture.
  10. Roll each dough up just enough to fit into loaf each 4 loaf pans with folded side facing up.
  11. Using kitchen scissors cut in a crosshatch pattern on both sides of each dough to make it pretty.
  12. Set loaves in a warm spot covered until doubled in size again.
  13. Once doubled bake in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes or until nicely browned. Let cool completely.
Recipe Notes

To make ahead, you can wrap the loaves in wax paper then in foil and freeze them until Christmas Eve.
