We spent the morning on Friday surrounded by coffee. And lots of it! Is there a better way to spend ANY morning?
Founded in 2013, Union Place Coffee Roasters has already made a splash in the local coffee market. We found Laurie and Joe DiProspero at their shop in the Genesee Valley Regional Market. Unassuming from the outside, the shop is wide and beautiful and centered around a coffee roaster.
Laurie developed her technique working for many years at a large commercial roaster in town. She was thrilled to have the opportunity to open her own shop.
Both born and raised in Rochester, Laurie and Joe are here to stay! Laurie works full-time at the shop, while her husband, who works at a large engineering company, keeps track of the books.
“Coffee customers gotta be some of the nicest people in the world,” Joe smiles. “One of our customers is a farmer and brings in brown eggs for us every few weeks. Another customer is a baker and brings us trays of cookies.”
Where does the name Union Place come from? “My customers like to combine their beans, so that defines Union, and Place is another word for home,” Laurie says. Union Place it is!
