Meet the DiProsperos

October 11, 2014

IMG_3412We spent the morning on Friday surrounded by coffee. And lots of it! Is there a better way to spend ANY morning?

Founded in 2013, Union Place Coffee Roasters has already made a splash in the local coffee market. We found Laurie and Joe DiProspero at their shop in the Genesee Valley Regional Market. Unassuming from the outside, the shop is wide and beautiful and centered around a coffee roaster.

Laurie developed her technique working for many years at a large commercial roaster in town. She was thrilled to have the opportunity to open her own shop.

Both born and raised in Rochester, Laurie and Joe are here to stay! Laurie works full-time at the shop, while her husband, who works at a large engineering company, keeps track of the books.

“Coffee customers gotta be some of the nicest people in the world,” Joe smiles. “One of our customers is a farmer and brings in brown eggs for us every few weeks. Another customer is a baker and brings us trays of cookies.”

Where does the name Union Place come from? “My customers like to combine their beans, so that defines Union, and Place is another word for home,” Laurie says. Union Place it is!

  • We’re admitted coffee snobs living in Philadelphia, a city with many coffee choices, yet none compare to the delicious flavors of Union Place. I can order online and enjoy experimenting with all their different yummy flavors!

  • Laurie and Joe are the two nicest people I have met. I have know Laurie for quite a few years, and have to say that she, in my opinion ,is a roast master who takes pride in producing great tasting coffee.

  • Love Union Place coffee. Laurie puts her heart and soul into her coffee and you can tell. Will never buy another can of coffee.

  • Union Place Coffee Roasters is the best! The flavored coffees are outstanding and Laurie and Joe are the friendliest people I have ever met.
