Hart’s Local Grocers closes on Winthrop St. building

March 3, 2014

LOANS SECURED FROM CANANDAIGUA NATIONAL BANK & TRUST AND SBA; PROCESS ASSISTED BY SEN. SCHUMER, REP. SLAUGHTER, SEN. GILLIBRAND

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Hart’s Local Grocers will soon begin construction on its 20,000-square-foot store at 10 Winthrop St., now that loans from Canandaigua National Bank & Trust and the U.S. Small Business Association have been secured. National representatives assisted in securing the SBA loan so the new store — the first full-service grocer in downtown Rochester in more than a decade — could stay on schedule for its planned opening in late May.

“We had amazing support from our representatives, who contacted the U.S. Small Business Administration to inquire on our behalf, and sure enough our loan approval came within days,” said Glenn Kellogg, managing partner at Rochester Local Capital and president of Hart’s Local Grocers LLC. “We extend our thanks to Senator Charles Schumer, whose office reached out and offered help upon hearing there had a been a delay in the processing, and also to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congresswoman Louise Slaughter who made phone calls to the SBA offices to lend their support.”

FROM OUR U.S. REPRESENTATIVES

Senator Charles Schumer:
“This new grocer will bring a host of benefits to downtown Rochester — besides providing convenient access to a healthy grocery for downtown residents, Hart’s Local Grocers will transform a critical, unused property in the East End and turn it into an operational business, which encourages commercial development in the area, and generates economic activity and tax revenue for the city.”

Congresswoman Louise Slaughter: (posted to Twitter Feb. 28)
“We congratulate Hart’s Local Grocers for closing on their location in downtown Rochester. I was happy to assist with securing the U.S. small business loan. Best of luck!”

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand:
“This is great news for Hart’s Local Grocers and downtown Rochester, Investing in our small businesses is the key to the future of our economy. This critical SBA financing will not only support the development of this local business but also provide a grocery store option for residents and add to the revitalization of the heart of Rochester.”
