The Season of Hope at Community Place

November 11, 2016

Each Monday, over 100 people visit Community Place on Parsells Avenue for their mobile food distribution. With food donated by Foodlink, residents of 14609 in need of assistance have the opportunity to stock their refrigerators for the week- from fresh produce to yogurt, butter to juice.

Mobile food distribution is just one of the many services Community Place offers. Since 1997 they have offered a senior center, disability services, pre-k program, GED program, housing assistance program and more to the communities surrounding their three locations. The intent is to help the entire family gain their independence and keep their dignity. “No matter what we’re doing, we always try to treat people the way we would want to be treated,” says Christal Owens, Manager of Family Services for Community Place.

While they are always in need of year-round donations and volunteers, they are currently in the middle of their Season of Hope. Each year, the season opens the week October 1st with their open forum night (a time for community members to hear from local candidates) and runs until Christmas gift baskets are given out at the end of the year.

Their Season of Giving includes a Thanksgiving dinner that is often attended by more than 350 people. We’re excited to team up with Community Place for the 3rd time to staff their Thanksgiving dinner on November 17th and to provide turkeys for the dinner and Thanksgiving gift baskets. We’re making it easy for you to help too:

On November 12th from 7am-9pm (that’s all day!) you’ll have the opportunity to make a monetary donation to Community Place right at our registers when you check out. You choose the amount, we take care of the rest. p.s. That’s also the day of our Local Thanksgiving Showcase, which will give you a chance to try our favorite recipes with local ingredients! Help us give thanks to Community Place for all they do year-round. See you on the 12th!
