Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I grew up in Webster, attended UB and I’ve worked at Hart’s Local Grocers since the beginning. I started off working in produce as the Produce Manager and then 2.5 months ago I switched off to be Assistant Purchasing Director and Beer Manager I’ve always enjoyed beer and the local scene, but I realized I had a passion for beer about five years ago when I began visiting micro breweries throughout my travels. It took off from there. I’m really starting to make Hart’s the go-to place in Downtown Rochester for beer. We’re working on bringing in more of everything for everyone to enjoy.
What are some of your favorite beers?
Headroom from Trillium, Abacus from Firestone Walker, Rum Barrel Aged GBS from Hardywood. Locally, I would have to say a collaboration between Roc Brewing Co. and Stoneyard Brewing Co. They did a raspberry sour aged in Pinot Noir barrels. I had it last year and it really stood out. Last weekend I had a great Fairport Brewing, New England-style IPA, too.
What might people not know about Hart’s beer?
We have everything from IPAs and Sours to Stouts and Ciders, every variety possible. From new to limited releases to your everyday drinkers. Beer enthusiasts and the casual beer drinker will find something to suit their pallets. I always try to keep a good variety, but I also look for limited and special releases, trending beers, and beers that would pair with the current season we are in. Love to bring the odd balls in too!
What is the most unique beer you would say we have in stock?
Next week we’ll be getting in Mexican Cake from Westbrook Brewing Co. It’s a super awesome anniversary series beer that they release once a year. It’s aged with vanilla bean, cinnamon sticks, and fresh habanero pepper. It’s a hot release and we’re going to have one case of it. I can’t imagine it will last more than a few hours.
Recently you started a Hart’s Local Grocers Beer Talk group on Facebook. What can people expect if they join?
They can find up-to-date info, pictures on limited, special releases along with new additions and beer reviews of inventory we carry. I definitely want to keep it informative and fun! We want to make it a two-way conversation. We’re always down for suggestions too so this is a great place to share those with us.
We know that not all of our customers are on Facebook. What’s the best way to find the answer to a beer question offline?
Stop on into Hart’s and ask me! I love talking to people and especially about beer! Or feel free to email email@example.com and I’ll be happy to reply back.
What’s coming out soon that you’re excited about?
Birthday BOMBS by Praire Artisan Ales! Such and amazing stout that is great fresh, or you can age them to achieve it’s peak quality and decadence! Only come around once a year!
If you could be a beer, which would it be?
Any Double Dry Hopped IPA!
